1960 – 2015 DALTON Kevin L. Miller, 54, retired longtime Dalton Police Officer, passed away peacefully at his home at 26 Farnsworth Terrace on September 8th, 2015 after suffering an apparent heart attack. Born on October 17, 1960 in Pittsfield, he was a son of Arthur P. Miller Jr. of Pittsfield and the late Barbara Wendling Miller. Kevin was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1978 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. He furthered his education at Berkshire Community College where he received his associate’s degree in criminal justice. Officer Miller joined the Dalton Police Department in 1983 as part-time officer and was promoted to full time status on June 30, 1986. While a member of the Dalton Police Department he served as a narcotics investigator with the Berkshire County Drug Task Force and as a certified firearms instructor. He was a member of the Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association. He was also pivotal in the Dalton Police Dept. members joining the Massachusetts Coalition of Police (MASSCOP) and he served as the first Area 12 Vice-President of MASSCOP. Officer Miller was also instrumental in launching the Bike Patrol Program with the Dalton Police and he proudly served as a bike patrol member. He retired on May 11, 2007 after 24 years of service to the Dalton community. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association and a volunteer for the Council on Aging Hilltown Outreach Program. He enjoyed following the Kansas City Chiefs, Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox. He was also an avid outdoorsman, golfer, gun enthusiast and Elvis Presley fan. Most importantly he was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend to all. Besides his father, Arthur P. Miller Jr., of Pittsfield, he leaves three daughters; Lauren C. Miller and her companion, Timothy M. Murphy of Dalton, Emily A. Miller of Randolph, MA and Tessa J. Miller of Dalton, a son; Cody L. Miller of Philadelphia, PA, a brother; Arthur P. Miller III and his wife, Christine of Dalton, two sisters; Pamela J. Cavanaugh and her husband, David of Pittsfield and Julie M. LeBlanc and her husband, Thomas of Dalton. He also leaves his former wife; Peggy Reilly of Dalton and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for retired Dalton Police Officer Kevin L. Miller who died September 8th, 2015 will be held Monday at 9:15a.m. from the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10a.m. at St. Agnes Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial with police department honors will follow in Main Street Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3 to 6p.m. at the funeral home in Dalton.
