John Biglow Coaching Opportunities

Click here to register on Event Brite

We have an excellent opportunity that is available to you. We have John Biglow, an Olympic rower here for two (2) weeks this summer, June and August, to provide coaching sessions. In addition, John will be giving a presentation about the book ‘The Boys in the Boat’ on June 26, 2016, more information to follow soon.

John’s Bio:
John Biglow began rowing in 1972 on Lake Washington and was coached by Frank Cunningham at the Lakeside School. He has rowed all boats from a 1x to an 8+. John rowed at Yale for Buzz Congram and Tony Johnson as part of the varsity 8+ in 1978 and 1979. That crew won the Eastern Sprints. John also had the good fortune to row with the national team in a 4+ coached by Pete Gardner, as well as a 4x and 1x coached by Harry Parker. As a result of this coaching John has enjoyed success at the World Championships placing 3rd in the 1x in 1981 and 1982 as well as having the privilege to represent the US at the 1984 Olympics. John will bring his experience and unique perspective as he discusses the book Boys in the Boat. His pursuit to join the Olympic team is portrayed in David Halberstam’s The Amateurs.

We hope you are as excited as we are about this opportunity! The lessons will be opened to all members first and if the classes are not filled we will open them to surrounding rowing clubs. So please take advantage of this.

BRASS Club Day – June 11 – 8:30-10

For those members who are not familiar with Club Days, one Saturday a month between the hours of 8:30 and 10:00 all 2016 BRASS members can come to the BRASS boathouse and row a boat with no rental fees (and no reservations). It’s a chance to try rowing in a double or a quad with other members or jump in a single you have not rowed yet. You will have a chance to meet others, one who may become your new rowing buddy! Remember 2016 members only.

Food offerings are always welcome.
